DID YOU LOSE YOUR TRAFFIC TICKET? Follow These 4 Steps

The only thing more frustrating than receiving a traffic ticket may be losing one. Unfortunately, replacing a lost ticket can be harder than you think. Here's what you need to know to remedy the situation:

1. If your traffic ticket was marked Traffic Violations Bureau (TVB) on the bottom, you're in luck. Go to: https://dmv.ny.gov/tickets/get-copy-tvb-ticket, fill out the requested information, and you will be able to order a replacement.

2. If yours was a parking or moving violations ticket issued by a local county, town or village courts, your lost ticket will mostly likely only be handled in person or over the phone. Contact the traffic court in that jurisdiction and ask the court how to proceed.

3. If you've lost your traffic ticket and you can't remember in which town or village your received it, narrow down your options and then contact the courthouses in those areas to check if they have a record of your traffic ticket. If you still haven't found which court issued your ticket, contact the New York State DMV to see if your ticket is in their system.

4. Once your find out where you received the ticket, contact the courthouse to either request a replacement ticket or receive the ticket information you need as well as guidance on how to obtain another plea form.

After you locate your traffic ticket, you will need to decide whether to plead guilty and accept the penalties or plead not guilty and fight the ticket. If you are facing points and a steep fine, your best option may be to plead not guilty.
